The renowned Swiss Design Awards are back and warming up for 2015: launched today, the call is open to all Designers who are of Swiss nationality or are permanently resident in Switzerland, to apply between 5 December 2014 and 19 January 2015. The Swiss Design Awards are one of the highlights celebrated during Design Miami and ArtBasel, and are presented by the Federal Office of Culture.
Applicants may participate in the following categories:
# Graphic design (including typography, editorial design, comics, illustration, CI design, web design, interaction design, animation etc.); # Products and objects (industrial design, furniture, ceramics, glass, jewellery, etc.); # Fashion and Textile Design;
# Photography;
# Scenography (including exhibition design, set design, etc.) and # Mediation.
The shortlisted and winning candidates will be featured within the exhibition in Basel between 15 and 21 June 2015. The Winners can choose between a cash prize of between CHF 20,000 and CHF 25,000 or the opportunity to train at selected, prestigious design firms and independent studios abroad.
What’s new this year?
Applicants can register on the platform at any time and create a user profile with its own personal access code. This will allow to create and submit a request for funding at any time, provided the relevant portal is open for applications. For collaborative ventures, each member of the group eligible to participate must register and receive an E-ID BAK number before applying to take part in the competition. This number must be communicated to the group member responsible for entering the group in the competition.
What stays the same?
Registrations and dossier upload for the Swiss Design Competition can be submitted on the new funding platform from 5 December 2014 to 19 January 2015. The dossier must be submitted in PDF format and may contain no more than 10 pages describing the entrant’s current creative work in words and pictures plus one page of biographical information. The file size may not exceed 10 MB.

The competition for the Swiss Design Awards again consists of two rounds: In the first, participants submit a dossier by 19 January 2015. In the first round, which runs until the end of February, the Federal Design Committee, teaming up with international experts to form a jury, selects the participants eligible to compete in the second round. These participants will compete for the Awards by presenting an original work in the public “Swiss Design Awards” exhibition in Basel in June 2015. The winners will be chosen from among the works exhibited and will be honoured in the awards ceremony on the occasion of the opening!
